[ Overview ]
This project delves into the creation of a zine that captures my perspective on the design mind—exploring how it functions, why it deserves consideration, and the embodiment of my own design ethos.
Titled FRAME, this zine serves as an illustration and encapsulation of my design mindset.
As a designer, my process always necessitates a framework, structure, or guideline as a starting point. I thrive on organization and establishing workflows for others to follow. However, at times, these frameworks can feel limiting, stifling creativity. Consequently, this endeavor aims to define the concept of "frame" for me and discover a harmonious balance between adhering to a framework and breaking free from its constraints. This zine documents my journey in navigating these frameworks.
[ Process ]
Concept
The narrative revolves around two primary themes:
Framing Creation: Explores whether creativity stems from the individual or the creative application of frameworks/tools/structures. Questions the existence of an ultimate framework.
Reframing: Explores breaking limitations and adapting to different frames encountered.
Metaphor
I explored various concrete and abstract frames, likening photography to a form of framing. Additionally, contemplated other experimental attempts, such as visual depictions.
Look & Feel
I explored various concrete and abstract frames, likening photography to a form of framing. Additionally, contemplated other experimental attempts, such as visual depictions.
Zine Development
Initiated by drafting concepts and ideas in a notebook, further refining and structuring the storyline in Illustrator. Aimed for concise and clean presentation, with text on the left and visuals on the right.
Prototype
Before really printed it out, I made a prototype.

Making, Making, Making!
This is the process executing printing and bookbinding.
[ Design ]
The process of creating a book proved to be a formidable challenge. Here's the narrative behind it.
[ Takeaway ]
This journey into my design mindset was a new venture. Through this zine, I had the opportunity for profound introspection into what matters most to me in design—the essence of this journey is authentically me.Upon completion, I was moved (nearly brought to tears). It signifies a deeply personal and reflective undertaking. And there are always some surprise when you print out the design, like how the ink interact with different paper materials, which you will never expect to see on the digital screen. As a junior in the design field, I recognize there's much to learn, encountering diverse frameworks, people, theories, and emerging technologies. At present, my definition of "frame" is to remain open-minded—embracing and dancing with the frame.
